What would cause......

What would cause antifreeze and oil to mix in a LT1? Would the heads and such still be good? I ask because I have found a motor I think I can get cheap and do my first ground up build with. The fluids mixed and it had a knock so the owner guesses it's a rod or main bearing problem also. Would this motor be worth fooling with?

Lots could cause that, possible blown head gasket is one.

Anything to the point that it would damage the block or heads? I really just want the block but he's selling as oil pan to intake so I figured I'd sell the extras to make up my cost. Obviously not if they are junk though. I was planing to go stroker with it if that would help anybody?

A blown head gasket has the highest percentage of being the problem. You can't rule out a cracked block or head without some checking by a machine shop.

I bought a block in that condition, but only after I dissected the oil filter from it and saw no metal particles in it. turned out that the fire ring on #7 was missing about an inch of material. I think I got a great deal considering it was a complete motor, harness, and ecm for $200
