What valve train?

I WAS thinking of getting the hot cam but i think i would get mad and wished i went bigger. So i am thinking of getting the cc305 cam or i thinkit is XE 224/230? Well how much would a set of springs and 1.6rr cost to support those cams? If someone could PLEASE help me out with these problems also:

1 Will this kill my tranny if i put one of these cams in? What if i keep my stock converter for a little while? (71,000 miles)
2. Will this kill my opti?
3. can i pass emmissions? Its a 96 z28 obd2 so they just check the computer not the sniffer test?
4. Will i need bigger injectors and/or brake booster?
5. Wiith mac mids, loudmouth, 3.73's, and cc305 with 1.6rr and a 2800 stall put me in the 12s with traction???
If someone could answer alll my questions it was BE VERY HELPFUL!!!! THanks

Re: What valve train?

Combo sell's spring kit's for a fairly reasonable price.. i'd look to them for a package deal.. THey're usually pretty good for that stuff... Only thing that can kill your tranny is "You".. as long as proper maintnance is done you should be fine as long as you don't rag on the thing 24/7... But.. Fwiw.. It will lessen the longevity of it as your going to put down quite a bit more HP.. But you should be fine.. throw a large cooler on it for added measure.. shouldn't kill your opti.. they are not directly related.. emission's is a rough one.. Tune is mostly the issue w/ that.. I have heard of some getting by w/ the 24lb'rs.. But you can upgrade to a svo 30lbr for relatively cheap..

12's.. You can get there w/ a converter,CAI, 3.73's and some Shorties.. You don't need no stinkin' cam!

Re: What valve train?

All of this is my opinion, but:

Best Rockers: Comp Cams Part# 1305-16 1.6RR, NSA, 7/16" Stud $265
Rocker Arm Stud: Either ARP or CC 7/16" studs, $30
GM Guideplates(you need 8): Part# 14011051, $24.27 Total including shipping from www.gmpartsdirect.com
You will need hardened pushrods, which will also run you about $35.

Springs will depend on what cam you get. The Hotcam is a great cam by the way. The Comp Cams EX grind 218/224 is also great. CC305 is good too, but you will lose a decent amount of low end TQ.

Re: What valve train?

the 305 or the 224/230 would pass emissions. the LE1 h/c package will also pass emissions with good tuning, and get you anywhere from 370-390rwhp

Re: What valve train?

The 224/230 is the Comp 503 and it's about the biggest you can go and
pass CA emmissions. I have only heard of cars with this cam passing, but
have not seen it in person. As for valve train parts, it depends on your
budget. As stereomandan said, you are in the $350 range for rockers,
studs, pushrods and guideplates. Springs, retainers, locks, seats and seals will
be in the range of $200-400 depending on your choices (like titanium retainers).
Single spring kits are available in the $110-140 range, and it goes up from
there for dual springs, or beehives. Just be sure to replace your valve stem
oil seals when you do the changeout. A search on valve springs will provide
a lot of information on the topic.
