He was getting ready to make a pass...that was the result of a 6500 RPM clutch dump on Hoosiers. He was happy that it hooked though.

After some suspension mods I hope to but 1 .7's on radial tires, I am at 1.84 now. When I launch I get the line, and let the car idle when the light drops, I smack the gas to about 1/4-1/2 throttle, the tires spin and about 20 ft out or so, maybe more, hard to tell, I get all the way in it. I know some guys foot brake ther rpm's up but IMO its better to smack the gas and get up on the convertor, resulting in better 60's, but thats just me. I really haven't tried it any different because what I do works so far.

I saw three rear ends go because of spider gears this last summer, all M6.

What's better? Beefing the 10-bolt, or getting a Moser/Strange 12-bolt/9"er?

The problem with the 10bolt is that the ring/pinion are too small for what most of us are putting to the wheels. 12 bolt/9 inch is pretty much the only way to go... and even then people still blow those, but not nearly as often.

I've got a Moser 12 bolt. With the upgraded 33 spline Axles and an Eaton Posi, and the ABS stuff still in it.

I broke the carrier at about 75,000 miles. Stock carrier with GM 4:10's on the street with street tires. 5000 miles later broke a couple of teeth off the pinion. Have been beating the crap out of my 9-inch for about 20,000 miles without any problems

Lets see, where do I start. First, broken spider gears in carrier. Second, twisted splins on axles. Third, chipped three teeth off the 3.73's. Forth, 9 inch and no problems so far.

How much power do you need or how much of a hook can the rear end take. I was thinking about getting drag radials because my back tires are toast, but if I snap my rear Im done, till about may or june because my dads business needs to pick up Car has some bolt ons, longtube system and cai. How long could I get away with the drag radials?

A stock M6 LT1 rear end can break pretty easily with drag radials, after a bunch of hard launches.
Add 4.10's into the equation and it will happen faster....

It's not a matter of if - it's when.

Glass rear ends.......

I wouldn't worry about your rear too much. I have a couple hundred passes on mine w/o any probs. At 140kmiles my posi started one wheeling it and luckily i bought a whole rear fro a 99 F-body for $100 and stuck that posi in mine and it's still going strong. One thing I have noticed is the lower the gear ratio, the more people have problems. I have had 3.42's in mine for over 2yrs. with zero rear problems. I have cut quite a few 1.5 60's and more low 1.6's than you can count. I always run on ET tsretts or ET drags even on the street. Wheelhop is another killer so put some relocation brackets and some ETstreets and forget about it. Now if you had an M6 thats a different ballgame. I have quite a few friends out here with similar luck with autos. I have been contemplating building an 8.8" and have most of the parts but if ain't broke don't fix it. Later Clint
