Assembly lube. I had that junk all under my valve covers when I put a cam in. No big deal.

It's where you're burning coolant and it's getting in the oil and condensating on the valve covers.

Yep you more than likely have coolant/h2o in your oil. Don't run it like that. You will probably spin a bearing. Find out where it is coming from.

If its to the point that its chunky, i wouldnt even waste my time with the headgaskets.

why do you say that?

the car has been sitting for about 2 weeks now, and hasnt been driven regularly for about 6 weeks...the only thing i did was drive it up the street just to let it run for a few minutes.
im guessing it caked up somewhat on the valve cover from sitting. actually, on the heads themselves, nots not caked up, just oil and coolant mixed, and same under the intake as well.

The metal tube is the EGR. Two bolts hold it onto the back of the intake.

a boxed end wrench should be able to get your egr/tube off.

Re: what the hell is this under my valve cover?

Could also be the results of excessive piston ring blowby, and a faulty PCV system. The blowby contains water vapor, and the PCV system helps pull it out of the crankcase. If you have excessive blowby, or if the PCV valve is plugged, the water's going to condense in the parts of the engine that cool off fastest, like the valve covers. Running the car for only a short period, without getting the engine up to full operating temperature only makes it worse. Letting "it run for a few minutes" is worse than not running it at all.
