Alright, so i'm going to install my LPE CAI kit, which turned out to be the wrong one, and i remember from a while ago (new serpantine) that i saw this weird baffle...

If anyone know what this is, and does this cause loss of HP? Can i plug or remove this item? Thanks in advance

 

That is the stock silencer tube. You cant remove it because then you will have a hole in your elbow. I would suggest getting an 1LE elbow, as it does not have the tube attached to it.

 

Supposidly, there is a shampoo bottle that fits perfectly in that oval shaped hole and you can get a clamp and seal it up. You aren't loosing any power over it.

 

silencer...boo...i want my car as loud as possible. Thanks for the help. If i get a 1LE elbow, where from? Will this make the car louder by any means?

no the car won't get louder. You can get a 1LE elbow from GM or you can get a trickflow elbow for the same price but it looks better from an aftermarket vendor.

 

I agree. I put a plastic bag over the port and taped it, then put another bag over it and taped that one too. No noise or leaks as of yet.

i would get the vortech elbow. It is polished and looks real good. I think they are $89 from summit or jegs.

You don't have to go spend 50.00 on the 1LE elbow. Just take that donkey dick off the elbow. Trace it on a piece of 2x4, cut out the piece from the wood, and stick on the hole. You can use to screws to hold it in place. Then use silcone to seal edges.

I have done this on 3 different cars works like a charm w/o spending 50.00 - 100.00 on and after market elbow.

i think the purpose of it is to catch any water sucked into the intake. most cars have something similar.

 

It's a silencer for the intake, I believe when GM designed the the intake system it was it a howling sound, do you notice it with CAI? The tube was added to silence the the howling sound.

 

I prefer to call it the "quadrajet" sound, lol.

 

so does the 1le elbow make it howl?
