what type balancer/damper

In regards to my 93 camaro LT1 A4.....if my crankshaft is internally balanced.....my flexplate and crank pulley should be neutral?

and if so, the factory crank pulley is normally balanced? or neutral?

I just need to know if I should change my crank pulley basically in regards to my 383 which is internally balanced...

Thanks!

the balancer is internally balanced and the flywheel is externally ballanced. go figure. lol

stock balancers are tuned only for stock rotating assemblies.

It isn't a "balancer" on the LT1... its only a harmonic damper, and should br neutral balanced. I've only seen one article that claimed the tiny holes in the damper were drilled/filled with weights to "fine tune" the engine balance, and I'm not sure how valid that article is. I suspect the small holes were filled with weights to insure the damper was neutral balanced. In any case, have the shop check the damper and insure it is neutral balanced.

so basically, to go with an internally balanced crank...my harmonic balancer 'should' be neutrally balanced.....and my flex plate should be for an internally balanced crankshaft , and NOT have that giant weight on it....?

Yes... harmonic DAMPER should be neutral balanced, and the flywheel or flexplate whould be neutral balanced, without the weight on it.

so with the 383 stroke u have it balanced so u dont have to use a exterally ballanced flexplate? my 93 uses a externally balanced flexplate. has small weights. tried one without the weights and it vibrated bad.

hmm....after they built my motor, i had a very bad vibration if you rev up the engine to about 3500 rpm, as the rpm would come back down the steering wheel and engine would shake.....so i then found out the kit they used has an internally balanced crank....and i was told that i should not have any weights on my flexplate....so i took the inspection cover down and saw that huge weight on the flexplate and removed it.......the vibration instantly went away......now im just concerned in regards to what type damper i should have on the car.....

thats my scenario at least....

A 383 (or any LT1 engine) can be built with an internally balanced rotating assembly (no weight on the flex-plate) or with an externally balanced rotating assembly (weight required on the flex-plate). Would appear your 383 is externally balanced, so you need the weights. Nothing wrong with doing it that way.

Or - remote possibility - when they checked the flex-plate it was not neutrally balance, and they added weights to balance it.
