What are those two vertical tubes on each side of the engine block?

I just had exhaust work done, and there's two vertical tubes on each side of the engine block, each with a hole on top. My mechanic said that they're for the air pump or something of the sort.

Aren't these able to be removed? Is that the "!AIR" mod people have in their sigs? Is there a guide on how I can remove it?

Any help would be good

Yes, those are tubes coming from the air pump. I know there is a good guide out there on the web to remove the AIR and EGR. Maybe someone can help with that.

Re: What are those two vertical tubes on each side of the engine block?

Do you mean two tubes on each side of the block, or two tubes, one on each side of the block? The AIR tubes are white metal, about 1/2" diameter. They would normally connect the AIR pump to the exhaust manifolds. Since you have the PaceSetters, appears you bought the "no emissions" model and don't have the AIR connections.

You can start by unplugging the AIR pump. As long as there's still a good fuse in the electrical circuit, you won't get an code/SES light in your 94. Remove the hose that connects the air intake ducting to the AIR pump suction side. Cap the opening in the air ducting with a 5/8" vacuum cap.

Unbolt the pump from the front of the engine, and simply remove the tube that runs to each side. The one that runs under the timing cover to the passenger side usually has to be cut at the low point to remove it.

^Correct, one on each side. Typo on my part. And I have the no-emissions setup pacesetters, correct.

I believe he is talking about the metal tube(horseshoe shaped) that goes under the front cover.

You can unbolt it, but you need to plug the hole in the air inlet system, or you will be feeding unfiltered air into your engine. Other than that, the pump and the pipes are full removal.
