What are these little red and green plastic things on my rings. Am I supposed to yank them out?

These plastic pieces on the oil ring are not supposed to be removed.

Ok thanks. What are the for and why didn't my stock rings have them?

those are there so you know that the ring hasnt overlapped itself. you need to be able to see both colors, if you cant, then there is a problem.
