what springs for 1.6 rockers with stock cam?

What springs would be best to accomodate the rocker arms? A friend of mine is about to put some 1.6's on and needs to know what springs to get. thanks

If he's not having a cam change down the line, LT4 spring kit is good and cost effective.

If I may: Don't base your springs on 1.6 w/stock cam. Why: Because if he is like most of us, he will probably consider a cam next.

I suggest using the same logic as you would in selecting a spring for the cam, i.e., what kind of driving do you expect to do and what size cam would you get. Then match your spring selection with the Cam Card of the selected cam.

I purchased and installed some really nice springs when I had 1.6s installed with my stock cam. And sure enough, I had to get new springs when I decided on my cam.

On the other hand, if he doesn't plan on a cam, then just get some springs that will handle the new lift of the 1.6s, considering spring height and coil bind. Any A-Market outfit can give you your options given the stock seat size and lift numbers.JMHO

I run the stock springs with mine (close to coil bind, but have yet to have a problem 5k miles later). I plan on upgradeing the springs when I do a cam, that way I don't have to guess my cam specs, I know exatly what I'm getting.

Well he will eventually pull the motor and rebuild it, maybe next summer, but he's not sure if he'll have enough $ by then. The car (94 T/A 6spd with some bolt ons including BBK shorties) has around 95k on it and is a daily driver with some occassional play time here and there. Obviously he'll need different ones with a rebuilt motor, but for now, all he needs is some decent springs that can handle the extra lift and a little stiffer than stock. Would there be any other choices besides the LT4 springs?

Personally, I'd recommend the Isky 235's over the LT4's, and the Crane 10308's over the Isky's. THe ISky's won't be near coil bind at all, and the 308's will allow for a good size cam install without having to machine the heads.

That would be the LT4s.

Ok , the lt4 springs will cost about $40 and you can use the stock retainer and keepers.....good to .525 lift. That said I would go ahead and spend $90 and get the cmotorsports spring kit that is good to .600 that way your ready for most any cam you select later.

I have the crane 10308 kit on my 383....they are dual springs and the kit is $140 + $20 for some cups for the springs because I didnt trust the shims. Only thing I dont like is the fact that the keepers are 7* rather than 10*.
