I see this chart (thanks for the chart btw) but nothing really spoke to me to much. alot of decisions.

I'd start with NGK TR6's (or equivalent) gapped at .035 and read them from there...

 

I would like to avoid ever changing the plugs in this car, or even taking them out to read them. This is the second time building this motor and Im sick of it.

im not worried about gettin an edge, using the perfect plug. I would rather just throw a plug in that will work, and work for a long time. I have pacesetter mid tubes so its nearly imposable to change the plugs with the headers on.

any suggestions? Thanks

 

NGK makes an Iridium plug, maybe try these in the TR6 heat range. I ran Denso Iridium IT20's for several years, they worked real well but were pricey.

 

If you never want to pull them again, gap them even smaller than .035 for safty of not having spark blow out.

 

I use ac delco or autolite gapped at .045 and never had any issues.

 

Re read #2 two and don't read them then. Seriously, TR6 gapped at 35. Just remember their not going to last as long.

Why would you not be able to pull off 93 octane gas? LE2 on a 383 should be very mild.

I dont have any advice on plugs. I run a ngk racing plug recommended by lloyd, cant remember the number. Dont know how long they will last but I wouldnt expect too long. If I were you Id run ac delco platinums for long life.

 

The compression is a little high. I seem to be cursed when it comes to knocking.


Yea I think what I get will be Iridium plugs. I know those last a long time. you cant gap those so I dont have to worry about that.

 

NGK TR6 is what I used.

I had the same compression. 93 is no problem.
We should have swapped PCMs. You could have had that tune. Zero spark knock.

 

Why can't you gap an Iridium plug? The ground strap can be moved easily with the correct tool, without damaging the center electrode, just like any other plug.



Educate me.

 

I was reading a thread that said that the Iridium plug were brittle and if you tried to gap them the ground strap would break off. maybe you just need to be more careful?

 

and green. yea that would have been a good idea. For the most part this is the exact same motor that you ran with that pcm. If you still have the equipment you can just read a copy of the tune and send it (If you use tunercat). That would be cool :-)

 

You should not be getting knock at 11.9:1 may want to get that checked out.
