First off, let me apologize for bumping such an old thread. I hope, once you read my addition, that you'll see it was necessary.
I wholeheartedly agree with the use of a TB screw as an E4 socket, and I didn't want to damage my threads either. Upon extraction, I found a smooth shank at the end of the screw a little over 1/8" tall, just enough for me to chuck up to with my 3/8" chuck drill. Worked like a charm and reinstalled the TB screw with no threadchasing required.

yes you can use one of the screws from TB plate. There is enough end that is not threaded to use vice grips to clamp then use as a tool.
or
just put a #4 torx machine screw and get a 1/4" threaded barrel same threads and use a 1/4" socket/nut driver
some IIRC found the correct torx socket at harbor freight for a few $ also
the one in pic comes with the MSD C&R
