Question What size are our stock manifolds?

I've been looking at shorty headers, and see that they are all 1 3/4" or 1 5/8". Anyone know how this relates to our stock manifolds as far as size goes?

I plan on getting '94-'95 style shorties and getting rid of one of my cats.

Anyone have a guess as to what MAC(with jet-hot coating) or SLP shorty's with a single high flow cat and the Hooker Cat-back would get me HP wise? Do the 1 3/4" SLP's really make that much more HP than the 1 5/8 MAC's?

Dan

It kind of all depends on where you plan on going with the car. Do you plan on adding any type of forced induction or any head work in the future or are you going to stay NA? If you don't plan on doing alot to the car and just want something other than the stock exhaust go with the smaller header primaries. But if you want to do more to the car and take it to the track religiously, then go with the bigger ones. Just my $0.02

1 5/8 will be good enough till about 350-375 rwhp, the 1 3/4 will be 375-400+ rwhp. it all depends on what your goal is, cant go wrong with the macs. few guys have made 400+- a few with the 1 5/8 though.

Yeah, I'm not looking to mod the heck out of my car. All I have planned are full exhaust, and a smallish cam(XE 218/224 or CC305) with 1.6 rockers, and 3.73's in the rear. So I'm looking to put down about 350 rwhp max. That's good enough for me.

I guess the MAC headers are more what I'm looking for. I like the plug access and the fact that they come with the Y-pipe. I will get them coated and buy them direct from Jet-hot. That is, unless the Jet-hot price makes them close to the coated SLP's. Then I may as well get the SLP's instead.

So does anyone know the area of the stock manifold's compared to the 1 5/8 diameter of the MAC's?

Thanks,
Dan
