Arrow What should I do while the tranny is out? (auto)

Before putting the (700R4) tranny back in, I was wondering if there is anything I should do while it's out.
I was thinking of changing the filter, pan gasket and obviously the fluid. What else can I do?

Also, since the tranny will be mated to a different engine/flexplate now, is there any specific way I should install it? (like any special aligning or things like that)
Thanks!

most converters are neutraly balanced so no really speical way to put in

as for things to do

Rear main seal
oil pan gasket (is much eaiser to do with tranny out ) if done make sure to remove low oil level sending unit
shift kit and/or billet 1/2 servo or vett servo

Just a few things

hes putting in a new motor so im sure hell get to those.

You might consider your trans mount or your transmission front hub seal, especally if you let the torque converter sit on that seal overnight unbolted, it tends to flatten out that seal and cause it to leak. also make sure your pump seal isnt leaking. and clean your bell housing. that thing is dirty!

Thanks for the advice guys. I bought a new tranny filter and the pan gasket came with it. I'm gonna change that tonight.
I was also going to clean the bellhousing, but thanks for noticing that.

When I disconnected the tranny, I removed the torque converter right away, but I'd like to replace that seal either way if possible. I didn't take a good look at it, but if I remember correctly, it looked like the optispark seal... How hard is it to replace?

Dave.. which pump seal?

Its a rubber/teflon lip type seal that seals around the converter snout. You use a scredriver and pry the metal seal retainer plate off, ( it was missing on mine, alot of people leave them off). Then then use a seal puller or scredriver or pliers to pry the seal out, then tap the new one in evenly.I like to lube it with a bit of tranny oil (kind of like the oil filter ring)
