What pickup for melling select pump and canton 242-t pan?

I think the correct pickup is the 20-013 but I just wanted to double check. I'm running the standard volume and standard pressure melling select pump, part #10554 and 3/4" pickup.

I called them and they asked for the casting number on the pump so they were positive to send me the correct one.

I called them today... they weren't to helpfull. Told them the casting # on my pump and they said to use the 20-010 which is a 5/8 pickup, my pump is a 3/4 so I'm gonna try my luck with the 20-013.

I was confused about all of this with my canton pan, and just went with the M155 and 3/4 matching pickup. I didn't really want high volume, and the select looked like a better choice. The only problem was the pickup and compatibility with the pan.

Note: After reading up on the M155 and its weaker casting and then reading the little note saying it sucks if you have a engine that has firm mounts , I did some research.

I talked to Patty at canton about the pump and asked about the melling select 10554 and what pickup it would use. She said it would be a matter of measuring the pump from top to bottom and comparing that with the M155. I have a M155 in front of me that I can measure if you want to measure your 10554 and compare.

From there we can take that info and talk to Patty at Canton and get a correct pickup.

According to the melling catalog the 10554 select pump is an upgrade to the m155 pump so hopefully the 20-013 pickup fits.

I just wanted to give an update, I emailed Canton today and they said to use the pickup for the M155HV pump but it will have to be modified to the correct height with the 10554 pump. Hopefully it won't be too hard to do.

More info to add to the Canton stuff. I was told by canton today that you can use a Melling 10555 High volume with their 20-023 pick up.

Canton really needs to come up with a pickup for the 10554 pump, and ditch the M155 series pickups. There is absolutly no reason to run the M155 series with a canton pan. (the pump states not for performance)

I am assuming that melling changed up their pump and canton is behind on the pickup design.

This is from a previous post with my troubles this summer..

"Well the official verdict is that the 20-023 oil pump pickup is shorter than the 20-013 pickup..

the one I had was advertised as fitting the hv units but it turned out to be the 20-013 for standard melling pumps... to fit the 10% over melling pump the 20-023 is needed and now it is on all fits just fine."

I have the melling 10552.. the 20-023 fits any of the 1055x HV high perf pumps no problem, mine needed just a slight tap to put it at the right height, no troubles thus far..

as an aside I used grey permatex on the pan gasket since the rails were far from straight, no leaks at all..

Update: called melling this morning, and the 10552 (10%) and 10555 (25%) select pumps are within a 1/ 16th of a inch in housing difference. The 20-023 pickup from canton is the pickup that is going to be the one for both of these. The 10552 will be slightly different with the 20-023 maybe needing a tap with hammer like mentioned earlier.

Included with the pumps are a 70 psi and a 55psi spring. The come with a hardened steel shaft, but they also sell a chromoly shaft (12550)
