www.por15.com.
I used it on my exhaust.
I ordered the manifold gray and then used the brite aluminum finish on the heat shields. Only a couple hundred miles since I painted them, but no discoloration or peeling so far. It's good to 1600 degrees. I didn't keep the catalog they sent with my order, but I'm sure they had engine block paint too. Just check the web site. Also tried thier Boss Gloss for the interior. Not as bright as Armor All and helps repell dust. I'm sounding like thier spokesman, but I'm just a very satisfied customer.

I like to use Equipment Enamel. Not plain enamel, not appliance enamel, EQUIPMENT enamel. Next best thing to powdercaot.

Generally you can find it at Lowes, Homeless Depot or Sherwin-Williams.

You can also check out " www.eastwoodco.com/ ".

Lots of groovy stuff.

Re: what paint to use on an engine block?

How did you prep the block before you painted it? Preping an item like that is what makes or breaks the paintjob.

You have to make sure ALL the grease, grime, oil, etc is gone before you can even think about having paint or any other coating stick reliabily.

De-grease the engine witha good quality de-greaser. Wipe it all down with some solvent to remove any residue; then use a good quality self-etching (Rusty-metal) primer; then paint with any normal paint.

The prep work; AKA cleaning the block; is what makes all the difference.

Re: what paint to use on an engine block?

I actually had the engine builder paint it before. It looked great, but after going through our parts washer it stripped some of the paint off. So, is por-15 the best of the best or what? Can you brush it on? do I have to sand to bear metal or just paint over the factory black and my red?

I just went to Advance Auto Parts and got some engine block cleaner After hosing off the block, and scrubbing it down with detergent, the paint stuck no problem.

Re: what paint to use on an engine block?

its not that the block was dirty, I used a parts washer we had at work and just through it in there, got all the crap off. But it just seems like I can't get normal paint to stick to it for crap after a couple years. I want something that will last, ya know?

The parts washer that u used is what did it. Even after the parts washer, do a very heavy wipe-down with some solvent to remove the parts washer chemicals. Most parts washers use a petrolium based solvent to remove all the grease and oil; you need a solvent like Mineral spirits or paint prep-sol to remove the film left behind from the washer.

Re: what paint to use on an engine block?

I use VHT also.

Preparation is the major factor in applying paint no matter what the case is.

(1) I set my engine on a engine stand.

(2) I scraped the large chunks off first.

(3) I used a hand held grinder with a wire wheel and worked every nook and cranny on the block until it was clean.

(4) Put a large catch-all pan underneath the engine and then started scrubbing it with solvent.

(5) Blew everything dry with a airgun.

(6) Repeated as necessary.

(7) Once I got the block as clean as I could, I then cleaned it off with a can of aerosol brake cleaner.

( 8 ) Went to AutoZone and bought 3 cans of Engine Block Ford Blue and some masking tape.

(9) Masked off everything I wanted to protect and wiped the block off one more time with the brake cleaner sprayed into a clean shop towel.

Good luck and have fun my friend!
