What Next after LT's??

Just wondering what ya'll guys think i should do next after installing my Long Tubes. Reason being my friend just got a ls1 with borla muffler and tips. I want to be able to beat him by atleast lets say 2 cars?

So what do yall think i should do next? I was thinking about camming it but i would need a stall before i ever did that. That and my car is running really rich. Just from where its been sitting i've started it a few times and revved it and theres carbon all over the ground from where the exhaust cutout comes out at. Car also was hyperteched programed...

Right now im pulling the numbers in my sig with those mods. I'm going to get it dynoed and take it to the track after i get the headers on and hope to be around 290. How much gain do you think i will see from the headers + plugs and wires?

i say do a tune right after the headers from madz28.com , not that hypertech crap. maybe move on to a 2800 stall converter after that.

Re: What Next after LT's??

well those were my 2 chooses. I figured either a stall or gears but some say stall is more fun but idk. Is a gear/stall combo any good? Also i was thinking about going with 4.10's I don't do much highway driving. But im still in high school for a little while longer. So depending on my next job that could change.

Which one would see me better gains?

a stall can cut your time by .5 seconds; gears can help you run up your RPM's quicker.

Id say go with a 3000 stall. I had a 2800 when my car was an auto and I kinda wished I had gotten a bigger one.

Question Re: What Next after LT's??

Why would you rather have a 3000stall instead of the 2800?? Just Curious.

what do you mean by your question? I would have rather had a stall that flashed higher than the 2800 I had...

will the stall only help on the 1/4 though? How much will it help from a roll or highway? Which one will give me more of an advantage over an ls1? Also which has more SOTP feel?

stall,373s,cam, and then a tune
Sounds good.

What stall should i get though. I think i'm going with a 3000 anyways since thats what is recommanded for the cam i get i think.

Re: What Next after LT's??

if you get a non lock-up itll help you on the highway, but kill your mileage. a lock-up stall will help you from a stop.

Id suggest TCI, Vigilante or Yank for converters. I had a Vigilante myself and it worked great! Some shops are even able to restall your stock stall to any stall you want. Since the aftermarket stalls are smaller and hold less fluid it would be ideal to have your stock stall restalled with lightweight fins. You'd be spending less to do this than buying a brand new Vig or Yank.

O well what would you recommand then? should i go ahead and get a high quality stall (such as those brands) or what? How much are we looking at to spend all togther anyways? (with and w/o install) Is a converter swap hard to do?

Also whats the differnce between a lock-up stall and a non lock-up stall?

Re: What Next after LT's??

I would personally put a 3.73 in the car. In a pure bolt on car(intake cat back Nitto) we got 6 mph at the top end with just the gear. 96Z A4 intake cat back 3.73 nitto it went 13.6 at 106...

So you think gears would be better? I already have 3.23's in it, but gears would be cheaper right? also which one would be more fun?

And can anyone still answer the question about the lock up and non lock-up converter?

Re: What Next after LT's??

3.73 I think would be more fun,you RPM quicker, you can bust em loose from a roll easier.Stall is cool but you dont make a lot of power yet, stall would compliment a cam a lot better, gears are like just another bolt on after exhaust in my opinion..

This sounds good on paper, but it's a great example of "You get what you pay for". Here's some background on why a restalled 12" stocker is not the best idea compared to a real 9.5" performance one.

If you go for a TC, spend the $ right the first time and get a good one. I've been down the el cheapo restall road once... Never again.
