What mufflers for true duals?

I've been debating with my self on which mufflers to order for my true dual set up. I'm going to be running coated race style pacesetter long tubes, into a 3 inch H-pipe and _____ mufflers with 3 inch turn downs. Fill in the blank for me guys! I want something that is louder than mids/gutted cat/hooker catback, but not as loud as open headers. I want a good aggressive, non-raspy, mean sound. I know alot of people are running bullets, but I've read several posts about people getting tired of them being so loud. So help me out with what you think would sound best. I've heard about bullets, flowmaster single chambers, hooker aero's, after burners, and a few others.

Flo Pro's seem to sound ok, but if I did a dual setup I'd do tubular chambered mufflers similar to GMMG, Sweet Thunder, and Stainlessworks. No ground clearance issues from large mufflers, just straight through sound and performance.

Thats exactly what I was just thinking, I am looking through a summit right now and see that they have 30" chambered mufflers for 119.95 each. My brother has the gmmg on his 02 ws6, and it sounds good, but still isn't quite loud enough for me.

I've heard some good things about the Moroso Spirals, I guess they cancel out alot of interior noise and still sound great.

Just got some Dynomax Ultra Flo welded mufflers for my true dual setup. They are straight through.

I've heard it on both LS1 and LT1 cars, and trust me it will be just right. Much deeper and slightly louder and more classic sounding than the LS1 the LT1 will get some nice head turns and complements. You might want to look around and see how many different places make these type mufflers. It will be much better if you have LT's with no cats, its like a different much meaner catback after I did my LT install. Good luck though.

I have LT's going back into an H pipe that continues to two 18" long by 3" wide chambered mufflers from Sweet Thunder on my dual setup and I love it! I also have the exhaust going over the axle.

Well I checked out sweet thunder like you said earlier, and they are alot cheaper than summit! You guys have made up my mind for me to go with the chambers. Next question, 18x3's or 24x3's?

TruDualed.
How load is your car compaired to open headers? Do you regret getting the shorter ones at all?
Also, how is sweet thunder to work with? Did you have any problems working with them? thanks guys!

Shorter the louder, since you seem to want something louder I'd try 18" first since you can sell them if you dont like and cut the pipe to fit a slightly larger 24". Remeber its harder to add pipe than take it away. If it wasnt for my GMMG sounding so damn good, I'd run a similar setup to what your considering cause I know it would sound sweet.

Re: What mufflers for true duals?

I ordered the mufflers around Christmas time this past year and had absolutely no problem dealing with them. I called and spoke to the owners wife and she was very helpful. The mufflers arrived in good time and looked great! I'm extremely happy that I ran the exhaust all the way out the back instead od dumping it like most people do. I used to have a cutout and I couldn't stand the interior resonance. As far as how 'loud' the exhaust is compared to open headers, its not near as loud. Trust me, it'll sound great at idle and people WILL notice you getting on the highway. I don't regret getting the shorter chambered mufflers as opposed to the longer ones.

You ran yours over the axel I'm guessing? At first I wanted to run them out the back, but right now I dont have the money for it, and I would first have to find a shop to do it. I was wanting to run them under the axel if I went all the way. It wouldnt be hard to go ahead and finish the system later on down the road though.

Thanks again for your guys help! Ill take both your advice and go with the shorter ones! I cant wait to see what it sounds like!

Re: What mufflers for true duals?

The Flowmaster 1-chamber mufflers have the best/deepest tone to me (I just love that classic Flowmaster rumble), but I've also heard the ground clearance sucks with them (even on a stock height ride car). Edelbrock, Magnaflow, Flowtech, Flo Pro make some good sounding mufflers with solid ground clearance...I do NOT like the sound of Dynomax bullets BTW.

Re: What mufflers for true duals?

At first, the spiral flows were one of the three that I thought about, but if I can get stainless chambered tubes for only 15 bucks more a piece, I think ill go that route. Oh and by the way, I plan on running sportlines on the car in about a month, depending on how low the exhaust is going to hang. Ground clearance isnt hardly a factor though.
