Stock - 27mpg at 80+mph going towards the mountains and getting 31mpg same speed coming out of the mountains
I bought this car hoping to get this kind of fuel mileage. It keeps me behind the wheel long enough between fuel stops that I usually have to make a trip to the restroom before I fuel up. I have spent hours reading all of the LT1 posts searching for ways to get even better fuel mileage.

Just got back from a 1300+ mile road trip. 28.2 was my best, with my lowest being 26.8. In town I get 18-20, and that's with me beating the hell out of it. And although my gears aren't much over stock, a car with 3.42s should get even better.
Something else to consider: The octane rating.... Theses are for highway miles: 89 octane 22 mpg, 91 octane 24 mpg, 93 octane 27mpg. 80 mph does seem to be the sweet spot for these cars. 60 or 65 mph is actually worse for economy.
My car has the stock 3.42 rear gear, what would happen if I dropped in a set of 4:10 gears?? Wouldnt the MPG go up on highway speed as I could use 6th gear easier at lower speeds like 60-70 rather than 80.
You would think you could use 6th more for the 55-60 range as well, were its at unless your freeway driving you dont really use 6th at all.

what 4.10:1 gears do accomplish is adj. the powerband to a more suitable range.
your RPM's will increase at any given speed, you will still have the same tq/hp, but the curves will be "shifted" which makes the car feel "peppier" when in reality you get "less" of a first gear, a "more" of a 6th.
So when it comes down to it, yes depending on your driving style it can decrease your MPG, but that is not always the case. real world application is never a set # gained or loss. overall you may see -1 to -2 mpg.
way to use the search function btw ;p

What the hell is that suppose to mean?? I started the thread Months ago I think I can ask another question in my own thread. Damn there are to many thread police on this forum. The search doesnt always give you what you want and I dont have time to screw around with it.
Thanks for your input but I didnt need to be ridiculed.
If I do a search for thread on 6spd with 4:10 gears it gives me NOTHING. Sorry no search results were found.

I routinely get 24 on the highway and 20 around town. I actually got better mileage before switching to Nitto NT555R2 tires...wider and stickier than stock yielded a 2 mpg loss. Of course, it goes, stops and turns better...chuckle.
it means that the last post date "04-08-2009, 01:55 PM"
and next response date (yesterday) has a very long period in between.
in no way shape or form was i trying to be a smart ***. I am sorry that i didn't realize you had started the thread, I am also sorry that you instantly concluded that i was trying to jump on you, and finally i am sorry to assume that people on this forum have a sense of humor. damn, i remember when people just tried to help one another out. now we have accusations of "form police". whatever.
have fun if you get those 4.10's they really wake the 6 speed up.
