What mods should I start with???
I have a 96 T/A with about 84K on it. I'll be the first to admit I don't know to much about the mechanical aspects of any car
. Here's the deal though I have about 2200 to spend. Problem is I fear my clutch is going out. And could use some better tires. I have Comp T/A's...they suck or I should say spin. I would love to do the LT4 hot cam kit but I just think that would be too much of my money. I will eventually go with some 4.11's. And would like to get a flowmaster or dynomax muffler...don't want to spend a lot on exhaust but want a meaner tone. What do you guys suggest??
Thanks

If you are fearing your clutch I'd go ahead and replace it, it is probably due anyway. Most aftermarket clutches are around 300 including pressure plate and about another 300 for installation unless you do it yourself. You should really get all the basic bolt ons before doing a cam (intake, headers, catback) I'd also get a nice set of tires you'd be amazed what a good set of tires can do. The bridgestone potenza's are really nice and pretty inexpensive too. I'd stay away from getting just a muffler, all it will do is changet the sound. I think a full flowmaster cat-back is about 250.
So say 600 for clutch, 6-800 for tires, 250 for catback and you still have pleanty left for headers or intake!

Definetly do anything that will need to be replaced soon. i.e clutch.
Then i'd get a catback and a CAI to start it off. Screw the flowmaster muffler, not worth it IMO, but if u do want one for a good deal, i'll sell u one for cheap.
Tires are very imporant too. B/c thats the foundation for the car. No tires= No go

i agree with the above...steer clear of the flowmaster.
other inexpensive (relatively) catbacks would be Hooker <$300 and the Loudmouth at a little over $300 i think.
definatly change the clutch and the tires. other good suggestions are the goodyear G-force KDW's or the firestone firehawk SZ50's (expensive ..$160 each...but one of the best street tires available).
after that you'll want to get a decent cold air intake and probably a good tune up including plugs and wires.

used parts save money.
shorty headers might be $400 max
CAI you could pick up for $100 or less
i also suggest an aftermarket shifter $200(new)
hotcam kit from discount parts dealer is $500
clutch from discount dealer is around $300

Tires can wait for a bit. I just suck from a stop
. Clutch I do think I'll go ahead and do. I can understand staying away from the hot cam kit until I get some other stuff. Just tempting you pay 500 for it and get 30 hp to the wheels
. One thing no one mentioned was gears. Would you suggest doing 4.11's before any exhaust?? Also what about a K&N filter charger? I hear they were good.

i would say u should invest some money in some suspension mods to help ur traction. Lower Control arms will run u about $200 and the relocation brackets for them about $70. Then u can get some Subframe connectors for $200 and u'll be cutting some better launches cuz u'll actually have traction
Probably not gonna make a lot of friends saying this but...that's one thing I liked about my 95 GT was the 8.8 rear end
Honestly, this probably sounds stupid, but I would rather be fast from a roll. Most of your "run ins" don't happen from a stop, and I don't go to the track (haven't ever gone...YET) So should I maybe stick with the stock gears (3.42s) to save the rear end? If so that opens up some money! Which is good news.
