What to look for in valvetrain for something wrong?

I'm going to pull the intake this weekend to see if i can find where the clacking is coming from. What should I be looking for? Will the lifters be different if one collapsed? Anything physical that I will be able to notice when comparing them to each other?
Thanks

Put your fingers on the pushrod end of the rocker and lean on it a little. Do this while the engine is idling. If a lifter is messed up the pressure you put on it should change the noise or you might be able to feel something different from the others. Don't even need to remove the intake.

The rockers might be loose or the pushrods could be too short.
