What Lifters does everyone run?
What Lifters does everyone run?
I have been reading lots of threads, I am about to redo my topend with: AFR heads, LT4 intake, pushrods, roller rockers, guideplates
If I use 1.7:1 ratio Roller Rockers, on my stock cam, what lifters would you recomend if any?
If I use 1.6:1 ratio Roller Rockers, on a new cam... like a GM 846; what rockers should I go with?
well, I'm cutting this a little short, I'm being kicked out of my office right now.. any info or opinions are very appreciated
Thanks,

Yea they have been getting a bad rap lately... I have read ****loads of bad stories about Comp R's.. but one good thread that I read, explained why they may be failing, the c-clips on the end of like 1/2 of em in the set may not be fully clipped on, and that you need to manually inspect each lifter and make sure all the c-clips are fully secured. But after that, they should be cool.

Just gotta make sure to check and make sure that all of the lifters are fully assembled, before you install them.

Re: What Lifters does everyone run?
There are VERY few choices in lifters, the base Crane and Comps are just stockers, the Comp Rs are the only common upgrade I am aware of though I have heard mention of some really high end ones.
I would discourage keeping the stock cam with any head upgrade, 20years ago the heads were the choke but NOT ON THIS ENGINE, the cam is the cork in the stock motor and will not properly support a head larger than stock. A guy posted on LS1 Tech about 320rwhp through an M6 with a stock cam and LT4 heads, seeing as A4 b-bodies have topped 300rwhp with their smaller cam I would say that guy would have been much better of swapping the cam at a fraction the cost, figure in the A4 additional losses and the heavier drivetrain and they are very close to his number with nothing in the engine but 1.6 rockers and appropriate springs.
Oh take a look around at a lot of gen1 aftermarket heads and you will find that your stock heads flow as well as those, again the stock heads are very good and can serve almost any 350 very well if ported well. People are FAR too quick to want to yank them.

Sorry, I can't post the specs to the cam, but I fired it for the first time last nite and when it fired, I jumped when she came to life. I was NOT expecting that!!!
Re: What Lifters does everyone run?
Hmmm, well maybe I need to think about some comp R's then. I'm going to be running a pretty decent cam in my car, not sure on the specs yet because I'm going to have a custom one ground. I can't go over .575 lift due to using HOTcam roller rockers, but the ramp rates should be pretty healthy. Plus I plan on revving the motor as high as it's still making power.......
