What are some of the big cams you guys have with no SES? I am in utah and we do OBD2 emissions testing here. We dont have to pass the sniffer anymore what they do is plug directly into the pcm and if there are no codes being thrown and the ses light is off then i can get it to pass. Is there any way i could run the CC306 in my 383 stroker with proper tuning and have no ses light? Or even possible the GM847 cam or something similiar? I want lots of power but I also want to pass emissions.

Please help.

I'm going to assume your talking about an LT1 and not your 3.8 V6... lol

You can run a giant drag race solid tappet roller cam and not throw an SES light. Cam size and SES have nothing to do with each other.

its all in the programming,
it has nothing to do with your cam.

Sorry if the sig was a little misleading. I havent updated it in a while. I am talking about a '97 LT1 i have swapped into my 98 camaro. PCM and everything is a 97. Can I get some more input on this topic?

What do you mean its all in the programming?

Does anybody here have some insight on exactly how OBD2 emissions testing works?

I know it checks more then that.

I know this much, it checks for DTC's, SES light, checks all emissions equipment and makes sure it is ready.

If i have a custom pcm programmed and say i have a certain code programmed out so i dont get the ses will the obd2 emissions testing catch this and fail me?

yes it will. maybe you could get a shop to pass you as long as you can keep the emissions down but from what i understand the PCM is scanned for DTCs... anything that comes up emissions related will fail you.

the cam itself doesn generally set off the SES light. its all the mods like pulling out AIR/EGR that cause codes... and low cat efficiency possibly if you dont replace the rear O2s with sims. the cc306 or larger may cause the CPS sensor to think the motor is randomly misfiring too.

This is true. I've even heard it happening on stock displacement engines with the CC305 on 112* LSA with OBDII.

In my 96 I have o2 simmulators on y-pipe, does that mean it just reads a stock looking reading or what? If so, this would be a good idea for your setup.
