I just installed 3.42's(2.73's) on my ta and OH MY GOD.The car is a so much faster.Before it was doggy off the line but now I can smoke the tires from a roll.I don't even have the tune it yet to fix the speedo and a/f.

Your a/f will not change with a gear swap.....you will need it tuned for the speedo and probably to change your shift points.



As for the original poster I think around 13.6 is around will you will run.

When I had pretty much the same mods as you, 'cept running on Nitto Drag Radials and a 2800 stall converter, I ran a 13.216 @ 103.97 with a 1.876 60' on a slipping tranny... That was my first track run with my 3.73's, shortly after the tranny went completely when I sprayed... I was pissed 'cause that should have been my 11 second run. Oh well...

my last run was a 14.3 @ 95mph with bad a/f (needs new mass air) without the dr's will the car still be capable of running on the interstate with the 3.73's?

you will be at 2500 rpm at 70. i would feel a little uncomfortable running 80 or 90 for an extended period, but 70-75 not a problem.

Potential of mid 13s, but whether or not you'll get there depends on you.

I' think you misunderstood what I said.The tune will lean out my a/f and change the speedo for the gears.


I think after you do gears and a good tune your car will pick up .5 sec.It will feel like a new car though.

Gotcha, I thought you meant when you changed your gears that your a/f ratio changed. I can't wait to do my gears and headers next spring......looking for 12 second timeslip for sure, and maybe a low 12 or sqeak a high 11 on the juice.

Is your assessment from personal experience? Because I have been trying to figure out if I had 4.11s or not and someone told me that 2500 rpm at 70 is with 4.11s.

Just throw in some data for what its worth.I just upgraded my 2.73 boat anchors to 3.42 gears.
I did several mods though since the first times and so direct comparison isn't totally possible but here is some info for you guys for what its worth.

My 96 z28 vert ran 14.96 at 94 mph with 2.38 60ft on street tires.Mods at time were g2 induction,holley air filter,airfoil,1le bellows,lt4 km,hpp tuning out,160 stat,stock maf.

I just ran recently with 3.42 gears,and added magnaflow catback and gms maf and nitto drag radials and maft translator.To be close comparison ran a 2.34 time on the nittos by not bothering to heat them up and car ran a 14.40 at 95.22.

So it appears gears and catback were worth like almost 6 tenths together.

I made three runs the first time and all were 14.96 to 15.01 and 5 runs this time..best was 14.35 with a 2.18 60ft and mph was again 95.06.

I had raceweight of 3775 and track is at 1600 feet above sea level.Weather was fairly warm and think a big headwind.Was also using heavy crome firehawk mags on the back 17 inch size off my 99 ta.

So I would think 3.73 should give you some nice times reductions if you can hook them up.Now with just the 3.42 and above mods I can smoke them off pretty easiy on street tires.The nittos dead hooked on the street though even at stock air pressure and with no burnout.Our lousy unprepped pavement not concrete track is a pos and its super hard to hook on that track with any less than et streets.

I run my 3.73's on the interstate.....i only go about 70-73mph though. And usually is a 40 minute run. Mine runs higher than the stated 2500rpms, but this is most likely to a slipping tranny. Check the sig......great 60 times....but once it starts to shift into 3rd.....kiss trap speed and time good bye. At least that's how it looks to me. No one else has been able to tell me why such a good 60 and such a bad 1/4.
