What kind of headers to get?

I want to put headers on my 95 Z28 Camaro (LT1). "Shorties" look like the easiest to install but will I get the same horsepower? It needs to stay street legal. So far I have looked into BBK, Hooker, Jet Hot and Edlebrook but really don't know which is best. Need input. Thanks.

Long tube headers will give more power up top, especially on a modded engine. Personally, I don't plan to mod my car much so I stuck with Jet-Hot coated Hooker shorties. I'm very pleased with them, and they cost $560 shipped, including coated Y-pipe.

If your going to bother with short headers just make sure you get 1 3/4 not 1 5/8. That way at least your getting the same primary size as LT headers.

Id say go with Long Tubes. You will be kickng yourself when you read posts with guys switching and how the car turns into a whole new beast. If you still want emmisions and such i would say go with MAC mids. I have MACS on my car and they run strong. I am going to switch to long tubes sometime soon and i will let you know how that goes.

If I were buying a short-mid length header, it'd be Mac or AS&M.

MAC headers

Thanks for the advice Stu. Is there a way to get rid of the stupid emissions and still have it pass inspection? I have a set of Hooker headers that are long but don't know how to put them. What do you do with the AIR and EGR sensors? I am so frustrated with this project I could scream. Everything else I have done to this car has been not been this complicated. I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

It depends on where you live. Different states/counties/cities do things differently. The AIR wont affect the emmisions because it only runs when in open loop to heat up the cats faster. EGR will make a differnece, and you might still be able to pass as long as you still have cats. I am pretty sure there is no way for you to pas w/o cats.

It all depends on wether or not you have no emmisions, a visual inspection, sniffer test, OBD2 test.... there are different ways to do emmisions.

To take off EGR, just block off the ports on the intake manifold and headers. AIR you just remove the pump and the fittings. You also need to get them both removed from your computer or else it will throw a code.
