What idle am i supposed to be sitting at
Cammed cars generally have to have their idle raised a little.
Untuned, 1000 may not be a bad place to be. I think most people are between 850 and 1000.
(and I'm sure now that I say that, someone will post up about how they got the H/C car to idle at 650 ...
)
Get her tuned though ... you'll pick up power and driveability.
When you did the cam install, did you adjust the TB to allow more air in for a higher idle?
(or drill a hole in the TB butterfly *cringe*)
If you did not raise idle intentionally, you may have a vacuum leak somewhere in the TB or manifold.

If its running on stock programming, it should be trying to idle at 800RPM (M6, fully warmed up). The stock tach typically indicates 100-200RPM higher than actual engine speed, so it may be pretty much where it belongs. You have to read the RPM off the PCM with a scanner to be sure what the idle speed is.
