What?!!? I have Cruise Control? Why won’t it work?

So I bought my car over 3 years ago and I realized I had the buttons for cruise control but the labels for them were rubbed off. I messed with the buttons a few times but they never did anything. So yesterday I finally decided to look up the RPO code for cruise. It’s K34; so I go out, look in the glove box and I’ll be damned I do have the option. So I pull out my Camaro repair book and find that the control module for cruise control is on the driver side frame rail at the front of the car. I jack up the car pull off the plastic cover and there it is. So why wont it work? Anyone have some tips?

All the cables and electronics appear to be hooked up.

The cable on the throttle body/linkage is hooked up and the other end is hooked into the control module.

The wires are hooked into the control module.

The speed sensor is hooked up.

I hear if the third brake light works then the fuse is ok.

Hmmmm what to do, I'd like to get this to work; ya know how many long distance trips I’ve taken over the past few years? I sure could have used this.

well... u know how to do it right? move the switch to the middle, take your foot totally off the gas and tap the button on the side quickly. I thought mine was broken for the longest time until I got the hang of turning it on. I duno maybe yours is actually messed up lol.

haha, I didn't think I had cruise control either until one day a few months ago (after 2 years) I was looking at the "sticks" and saw "trol"

I was like a giddy little school girl!

It also explained why while driving 30+ my car would randomly STAY at that speed and It would FEEL like CC was on.. Automatic CC or something? It's scared the crap out of me a few times, usually when I'm doing 45 and just let go of the gas to roll to slow down

If you have a repair manual, all you need to do is follow the troubleshooting instructions. It's usually quite involved.

Ok I’m dumb founded…..Everything seems to be hooked up? My repair manual only shows how to check it being hook up doesn’t go into detail about repairs. I went and test drove it doing exactly what my owner’s manual said and it didn’t come on.

What should I do?

Anyone else have something similar happen? Do I need to replace the control module?

heh, my cruise stopped working when I swapped over to an OBD1 computer. I just yanked the crap out then. Less weight, go faster.

If you have a burned out bulb in your 3rd brake light it can stop the CC from working.

mine works when it wants to work, i got quite involved and tested all the wires and their correct voltages and everything, the complete system looks 100 percent healthy so i have no clue why it doesnt work all the time...im thinking it has something to do with the fact that i removed CAGS

Mine worked more reliably after I removed CAGS, but it still only works when it wants to. I replaced the control module, and that didn't help either. What a beautiful waste of a few hundred bucks.

Mine wasn't working when I purchased the car. I replaced the burned bulbs in the third brake light and it works perfectly now.
