what hose is behind the crank pully

ok so i'm in the midst of my long tube header install. (wow, what a pain!!!). Anyway while i had my 95 Camaro z28 up on the lift i decided to throw on my pulleys. I'm glutton for punishment i guess. I proably should have waited and did that another day to do it, and know i'm in a fix.

it's like this... I couldnt get the pulley puller on it, (it's too big and there's too much crap in the way). so after prying at the damn crank pulley for 20 min, i slipped and smashed the **** out of this, what appers to be a vacuum hose of some sort. and i didnt just smash the hose, oh no. i snapped it off at the source at the base of it. It's located on this big piece of plastic. Problem is, i don't know what the damn thing is. It's located directly behind and above the crank pulley. I super glued it back on as best i could, but that's no going to cut it. maybe i'll just coat it in JB weld and hope it holds. but i proably should remove and replace this thing.

anyone know what the heck that thing is, and about how much it's gonna be to replace?

It's your optispark vent tube. So you broke the plastic base too then? Oh man.....

A new one is about $220-$230 from

Re: what hose is behind the crank pully

If your car was running fine before, I would look for a way to glue it back on. There is not much pressure or anything in that area, so as long as it seals and stays on well, you should be fine.

By the way, most of the time you will not be able to pry off the pulley. You should have just taken the fans off to make room for the puller. Also hate to say this, but underdrive pulleys are not worth this trouble.

Re: what hose is behind the crank pully

i'm going to try to patch job it up as best i can and see how it runs.

i've been hearing a lot about pulleys not being worth it. i'm kind of stuck with it now being as i beat up the other pulley pretty good.

lesson learned. next time i'll do it right, and i'll do more research next time before i fork out $100 for a part.

hey, thanks again.

What kind of pulley is it? Most underdrive pulleys just piggyback to the old pulley, so be careful. Only a few of them actually replace the whole thing.

Re: what hose is behind the crank pully

it's made by ASP. it fits onto the stock crankshaft pulley spot but it doesn't line up with the other pullies. i had the thought that, yes, maybe it piggybacked on the stock one. but we couldnt figure out how it's supposed to piggy back on the stock pulley. but then agian i didnt really get much time to work at it because the shop is was at was closing down for the night. i really hope i didnt brake all this **** for nothing though.

i dont think i beat the stock pulley up all that bad, (i hope.)
