Question what the heck is this?

OK i dropped the pan and removed it cuz of oil pan leaks. I happened to look at the oil pickup and I found some strange particles in there. check this out

http://www.flickr.com/photos/23329454@N07/

I cleaned bunch of it out with a pick, Out came bunch of gasket material, like rtv. Bunch of weird colored, plastic to the touch, purple and orange stuff, sitting on the paper towel. I cleaned it as best i could but you can still see some purple crap caked on the filter still.

What do u guys think this is?

Should that filter screen be completely clean?

How should i clean it? and should I be checking other things also while im down here?

confused as to wat the hell this stuff is. help please lol

Looks like cam paint, did you just install a cam? Remember to always clean it first w/ brake clean then cover in oil. Don't feel bad, my so called professional engine builder forgot too. But I caught it correcting something else he messed up on, haha. Good luck man.

yeaaa it must be cam paint! did a rebuild lately, but had to drop trans after 1000km, saw the oil pan was leaking also so I pulled the pan and found all that in the oil pump thing.

What about the rest of the paint?

Is this going to be a problem, or just clean it all up, including the purple still left on the screen and call it a day?

All the paint should b off the cam by now right?

thanks for quick reply brandon

deja vu all over again. I would swear I saw this exact post and pictures a year ago only with a lot more replies. If you search the archives I am betting you find a remarkably similar post and pictures.
