What heads for 450+rwhp?

I emailes LLoyd about his heads and cam apckage and he said that with good tuning and his LE3 I would be looking at around 420-430. But I would like to get over 450 n/a. It that possible with a hydraulic set up and a 236/242 comp cams xe grind. I was thinking maybe a set of AfR's ?

more c.i. will help to achieve more power but my question to you and many others why is it always about hp #'s, hardly anyone talks about torque?
without tq you will not leave the line(if 1/4 mi. is your focus)!if you road race well yeah hp is your main factor, plwase don't take this the wrong way,i am not attempting to insult your intelligence......

I bet some fully ported AFR 210s with a good custom cam might do it. However a 383 would make the power easier.

That's my goal too, though I'm currently building up an all forged 396. I'm leaning towards the AFR LT4 210 CC heads with the "competition" port job.

I'll be sticking with a hydrolic roller rather than going to a solid totry and keep maintainance down.

I just emailed one of our supporting advertisers. "Advanced induction" and asked them what they would reccomend for me to reach my goal. Still waiting for a reply.

Has anybody delt with these guys and would you reccomend them?

I'll let you know what heads they suggest for me. Maybe you will take the same route.

Advanced Induction is exactly who you want for the job. They will grind you a custom cam to match the heads for whatever your goal is for the car. AI can get 420+ rwhp out of stock castings and their cams on stock bottom ends so I am sure theyd turn out amazing numbers with with some LT4 210s, custom cam in a 396... 520 rwhp is my conservative estimate.

I'm actually dealing with Ai right now. Some of the best customer service I've seen in awhile. Theres some people out there making some really good numbers on thier work. I'm getting some Trickflows done for me, so we'll see how they turn out.

Really ? I posted a while back wondering whether or not I could make 475 -500RWHP and everyoen was like, no that won't be possible, especially if you want it to be streetable. That's why I decided to lower my goal down to about 450.

I was on AI's site and they had a bunch of stock bottom end LT1's with ported stock heads turning out way over 400 at the wheels.

Maybe my origional goal of 475-500 with AFR's is a possibility after all?

I'll wait for their return email and see what they say...

"As far as 500 NA w/ aftermarket castings, solid roller setups & more inches... I think we should see more than we do ."

That is what Phil from AI said in one of the 500 NA hp threads.

Well if it's going in a 396, you should hit it fairly easy. Cubes can make a bigger cam more drivable.

more cubes - and a solid roller cam. Big #'s are a cakewalk. Most of the time. Keeping it hydraulic, and making lots of power ~ while sticking w/ a 23* head..... It's been proven to be a daunting task.

Guess I should have posted my mods.

Fully forged 383
58 mm TB
Gasket matched LT4 intake
236/242 .556"/.576" w/ 1.6 pro mags
Combo Motorsports ex-612 springs good for .600" lift
Comp R lifters
P&P LT1 heads w/ 2.02/1.60 valves
Pacesetter LT's and Borla
Mad Z tune

Im not necesarily worried about HP alone. I just assumed that the torque would go up as well with the right combo.

Re: What heads for 450+rwhp?

So you think a set of worked AFR LT4 210's with a custom cam would do it? Was kind of planning on dealing with AI in Charlotte. I talked to Ron and he seemed very helpful and knowledgeable. Can AI package this setup for me?

Re: What heads for 450+rwhp?

AI can put together anything you can imagine. One of their customers put down some big numbers with lots of problems. Once his Advanced Induction AFR setup is back together and tuned, his car will put down some scary numbers.

A 236 cam can make 400ish numbers with a good tune and heads, but for more you will need more cam. Just let them know what you want and they can put it together. Phil/Ron setup some nice combos.

Good luck with your goals/combo...I think you will be more than happy with the results and service.

Re: What heads for 450+rwhp?

I would have to think a good set of ported AFR's 210's would get you there quite easy with a S/R.
I went twith smaller heads because i wanted better low end TQ and the 195's where one small part of the combo I choose. I am sure my set up will be over 420 RWHP and 415 RWTQ the next time I tune as i had a few problems last time and I am running cc 306 a fairly mild cam (For a 383). Solid roller is the only way to go for big HP. Keep in mind that everything needs to match just slaping a cam and a set of heads on will not make power unless the hole set up works with each other. CR, cam selection, heads flow ect..
