What headgaskets and injectors w/ new heads/cam ?

Hey guys,

Long story short.. I blew a headgasket and now will be replacing wires, plugs, heads, cam, etc... not sure which cam to go with yet, probably a 306 or 305 ? Probably Lloyd Elliot or TPIS heads..

What are the best injectors I can have installed when I am having my heads / cam replaced ? Is this a good time to replace injectors ?

Also, should I replace the headgasket with the Impala headgasket or not ?

What are some other things I can upgrade while the heads are off etc.. etc..

I've been using the Impalla shim head gasket (.029 compressed height versus .049 stock head gasket compressed height) since my rebuild in Dec 1999. No problems! Bumps up the compression ratio a bit of course. What kind of duty cycles have you been seeing on your scan/log runs? If you're above 85% duty cycle at WOT then, yes, go up on your poundage. Otherwise, why bother?

I would use the propper gasket to attain the compression ratio you desire.

How much were the heads milled? Do a search on dynamic compression in advanced tech and take it from there.

Injectors- same deal. bigger isn't better. You should be fine with 24# injectors and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I'd go with 30# and AFPR just incase you go bigger later.

Do what trey said regarding the CR.

I would get 30's to be safe. Your better off taking away some injector than pushing one to work.

Also, where is the best place to get the 30# injectors ?

cheapest way for new ones is to pick up a Fast Fords/Muscle Mustangs magazine and flip thru the online vendors. I've seen SVO 24# and 30# in there for as little as $189 a set before. More typically, you can find them from time to time for $209.
I bought mine from Tommy Vaughn Ford here in Houston for $209 and he's an advertiser in FF/MM.
