If next to your shifter it reads:
P
R
N
OD
D
2
1
then you have 3.23s. If you can't manually go into 1st gear, then you have 2.73s (Unless somebody swapped them out for something else).

Sounds like 3.23s to me. If you had 2.73s you'd be at 1500rpm or even a bit less at 60mph.

I've got 3.23s and at 60mph my tach shows around 1900.

3.23's I'd say.

From http://www.f-body.org/gears/ :

W/3.23s
RPM -1st Gear-- 2nd Gear--- 3rd Gear-- 4th Gear

1500--- 12--------- 22--------- 35------- 51
1600--- 12--------- 23--------- 38------- 54
1700--- 13--------- 25--------- 40------- 57
1800--- 14--------- 26--------- 43------- 61
1900--- 15--------- 28--------- 45------- 64
2000--- 15--------- 29--------- 47------- 68
2100--- 16--------- 31--------- 50------- 71

If you have not figured it out, here are some body codes for the 97 Camaro. Look for the Fisher Body codes on your Z. My SS has them on the driver's door, but it will be a white sticker with your VIN number, and a bunch of 3 digit/letter codes. All of these codes tell you what equipment your car has. From the alternator amperage to the rear end ratio. In 97 here is a list of the rears available.....GU2 is a 2.73, GU5 is a 3.23, and GU6 is a 3.42. If you don't have one of these, drop me a line with the GU#, and I'll look it up. Hope it helps, Jamie.
