This is for a '95 LT1 car.

Right now the starter solenoid wire runs too close to the headers. I'd like to lengthen the wire so I can reroute it away from the headers. What gauge wire should I use for the starter solenoid wire?

 

A quality 12 gauge works fine. Done it meself

It's 5mm². Equivalent to a 10 AWG.

5 is the surface area of diameter, represented in square mm's. Pretty complicated, eh? Not sure I understand it.

 

Is 10 AWG the same as 10 guage?

 

i think AWG stands for American Wire Gauge so the answer is yes
