What else
My car was knocking so I took it to a family mechanic and he says the last two bearings on the crank has some play. So he is going to take the crank out and get it turned and put some oversized bearings in. My question is what else should I have him do while he's in there besides the oil pump? Before anyone askes, he's working from under the engine through the oil pan.
Sorry, not enough detail. He pulled the motor out all the way and he is pulling the crank out through the oil pan so he doesn't have to take apart the top of the engine. So what else should I have him replace while he's in there? I'm on a pretty tight budget. Any advice would be helpful, ty.
Describe the knocking sound. Was it loud and deep like a banging your fist on a wooden table. This is the sound from main bearing knock. Some confuse what they think is bearing knock with other issues.
I hope he had the motor out and the crank removed when he diagnosed it.

The knock noise sounded like a diesel engine under the car, but you couldn't hear unless you were under the car. He pulled the oil pan off and he said the last two bearings had play in them. That's when he confirmed his diagnosise. So what else should I have him replace when he's under there besides the oil pump?
Not much more down there other than the oil pump like you already stated. He cant pull the crank due to the timing chain still being attached I would think. You can actually install the main bearings by simply loosening the caps and rolling the bearings into place. Of course the rods are cake.

At least get the cam now as it is going to be a lot easier to put it in with that front cover off and a mechanic helping you out. You will have to remove the heads, but as you said you can do that later down the road.
