i tried a half inch and it is too big? btw in what direction do you rotate the nut to make it loose, like if you standing in front of the car is to the right to loosen since it is on the back?

Sounds like you are trying to take the nuts off the studs. There are no "bolts" for the EGR valve, only studs. I think you are asking for the wrench size. They are conventional threads.... from the front of the car, with the wrench on the nut, you need to rotate the wrench clockwise to loosen it. Somebody else will have to tell you the metric nut size.

Mr. shoebox, you are right. It is a half inch. I just was using a funky "quick turning" wrench that is just plain retarted. Thank you so much for the help. I got the job done about 3 hours ago
