Question What does it take to get an ls1 exhaust to fit

I recently acquired a brand new borla for a pretty good price except it is for an ls1 car. What has to be done to get it to fit an lt1 single cat car?

The i-pipe on that catback is just a little shorter than your stock one, so you can either have an exhaust shop fabricate a few feet of exhaust pipe to connect your cat to the i-pipe, or get an s-pipe from http://www.thunderracing.com

I'm pretty sure that you don't have to fabricate any pipe. If lengths are any different, it's only a few inches at most. I have the LS1 pipe routing on my LT1 and it connected right up. I have a '96 dual cat car, but the cat-backs are the same.

I bought the SLP Dual/Dual from a board member from a 2000 SS and I already had the S pipe. For some reason it just wouldnt fit right. Finally I took it to the exhaust shop and they said the S pipe was too long... They cut about an inch off of it and now all is well.

Also not sure if this is the same with all fbody underbodys, but the hangers were not lining up. So I had to have some welded onto the frame.

I couldn't remember which was longer, so I guess you answered that. The left side hanger did change in '98 to a different type. I switched mine to the '98 style body-side hanger.

Minor hanger mods for an inexpensive Borla? Sounds like you got a killer deal.

On a dual cat car the LS1 exhaust should bolt right up with nothing extra needed.

On a single cat car you will need an S-pipe.

Lets just say i pretty much stole the borla, from cabela's, in the bargain cave of all places. Once in a life time deal.

So it sounds like i might need an s pipe and some hangers but that isn't that big of a deal. Thunder racing sells the pipe to make it work?

I'm sure you can use the one they sell for SLP loud mouths to work on a single cat car.

I have SLP duals off of a 2001 SS on my 96 WS6 Formula, it bolted up perfectly if I remember correctly. I was working at a Chevrolet dealership they replaced the exhaust under warranty because the guy said the right tailpipe was disfigured. Actually it was made that way for the spare tire well because the SLP exhaust is bigger diameter pipe than stock. Anyway they put stock GM tailpipe and muffler on the car and threw the SLP stuff in the dumpster, it had 300 miles on it!

I opened up my slp catalot and low and behold, the kit is in there and it is pictured with new hangers too! Sweet, thanks for the help! With that kit my borla will be up to $169.95. Not too bad of a deal.
