What does a LT1 need to out run LS1's?
I was wondering what the LT1's need to beat the LS1 in the 1/4 mile? Can we do it with just bolt-ons and gears? Or do we need internals .....cam, heads, etc.? I am trying to decide whether to sell my LT1 and get a LS1 or just mod my LT1. What do ya'll think?
The main reasons why the LS1s are so fast is because of their head design. If you go with ported heads you will run with the LS1's. You could probably beat them with bolt ons but I would go initernal and work my way out
A 100 shot will do fine.
Since I have to keep my car instead of my original plan of selling it, (YOU SIDEWINDER SON OF A BITCH!) I am going to rebuild the engine with new pistons, home port the heads and intake, Hot Cam kit, fuel system, full exhaust and hopefully a 12 bolt six months and McLeod setup 6 months later, then I''ll end up swapping in a BMR LS1 k member with a supercharged 382 LS1 in its place. Take about 130lbs off the front end with my suspension setup.

Yeah i want to be able to run out run a stock LS1 with some Longtubes and 4.10 gears and some suspension work. But my problem right now is getting off the line without spinning. I cant get my car to hook off the line. Is there any way to get it to hook without running ET's?
It's called evolution, dude.
While it's true that with some bolt-on's and perhaps some cam...and a little of this and that...you'll be up past the LS-1...it won't take as much for him to be right back past you...then you have to run a 75 shot...then a 100 shot....then a 125 shot....
I'm not saying that it's bad, mind you... It's just that eventually.....the LS-1 will keep going faster. I think when I get to a 175 shot...I'll just have to trade up.

Hooker LT's, good cat bak, CAI, bigger TB, ported MAF, tuning should do it for you. I do have a question though. Besides what I mentioned for bolt ons (no internal engine work), what other bolt ons are there for LT1's? I'm skeptical as to how much the TB and MAF would really do. The intakes are obviously good, computer chips are junk IMO. I'm used to thinking of Grand Cherokees where a CAI and a cat bak will help you quite a bit. Then there is the 454SS that might crack 16 stock, but a big K@N, headers, exhaust will put it in the mid 14's on a good day.

My 94 Z28 with Mac Headers, Y- pipe, Catback, CAI, Free Mods, 3.73's, air foil, 1.6 RR's and a shifter went 13.2 @ 105
My 99 SS with a MTI Lid and SLP dual dual went 13.21 @ 108
they are stronger cars because of the heads. Get yourself some headers and you can hang with them, but even so they tend to creap up on the top end. I used to have an LS1 and i miss it. I just dont miss my payment, and for cheaper you can beat some LS1's. Oh, and the LT1 looks better

I have very minimal mods, and last nite at the track i took 3 ls1's! If you dont beileve me, fine. But the truth is my 13.7 beet 3 ls1's. i beet a 99 z28. 2001 z28, and a 00 trans am. I am not sure what each person had done but i out ran them all 3 times. i say driver is the most important mod to beet an ls1. But from a roll they are very hard to beet. I would say that if u plan on beeting ls1's...You would definitly need cai, cut out, gears, headers. With those 4 mods i think u could walk a ls1 to 100...after that BYE BYE!

once you open up the motor it's anyone's game... LT1 has just as much potential as the LS1...
how fast do you want to go today???????
i can handle bolt on LS1 cars all day long at the track with no problem (for the most part)... on the street it's a different story, but I don't race on the street, so I could care less.
