What does a closed EGR valve look like?

I took of my EGR to clean it today, and sprayed carb cleaner everywhere for about 20 minutes, the valve was indeed stuck and I got it loose and smooth again. The only thing I noticed is that it does not seem to go all the way up- and if you look at the shaft between the 'bellow' type thing and the casting, there is a good 1/4" there- should this go all the way up or is this normal? Also when I blow on the valve in the closed position, I do hear air escaping- is this normal, or should it be completely sealed? Has anyone tried this on a new valve?! Even a picture of a new valve would help!

Thanks
-P.J
