What do you think about this LT1 396 set up...
Here are the specs:
AS&M headers
Crane 222/230 cam
Springs 150 closed/430 open
It has some drivability problems under 2500...feels like cam overlap.
Also is it possible to "feel" the valve springs? It honestly feels like they are just too heavy and causing a lot of engine resistance.
Anyone had problems with getting these headers to seal up? They have always leaked and it seems no matter what the shops do, they never seal.
What do you guys think? It's a great engine, but we're thinking about putting a slightly less agressive cam in to make it more drivable down low. Too bad because I love the idle!
Also, this is a daily driver.
Thanks,
Steve

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking for help on. You make statements about drivability problems and cam surge, but then ask about springs and headers... I’m not sure what you’re trying to diagnose.
But this discussion should probably take place in LT1 Tech. Transferring- Thanks.

You're right, I wasn't clear.
Let me try this again.
Concerning valve springs. Are these stiffer than they need to be? And if they are, could that effect the load on the engine? We don't have a need to rev past 6000 RPM.
And with these headers, is there anyone else who has experience with them? Were there problems getting them to seal up?
And as far as the cam goes. What's recomended for the street? Like I said, we get cam surge at really anything less than 2500 revs and that's getting old.
Maybe this makes a little more sense.
Sorry about the wrong forum, thought since it was a 396 it needed to be in advanced.

No prob.
At first glance it looks like those springs are more than that cam needs. As far as the surge that can usually be cleaned up some with more tuning. Sorry I have no opinion on the headers as i've never run those specific ones.
