What do you guys think of this exhaust setup (cat converter / cutout) ?

Hey guys.. after the cam install the car just reaks of how rich it runs at idle now. Since idle cannot be adjusted via the PCM, I'm kinda stuck with my current situation.

I have hooker LT's, a custom 3" mandrel bent y pipe, and a hooker catback.

I'm thinking of picking up one of these cats below and adding it into the ypipe. Since I race my car quite a bit, I figure I'll just put a cutout in front of the cat for race purposes to get my free flow back.

Anyone think this is a good idea? It should resolve the nasty stench at idle quite a bit right? What will it do for sound with the cutout closed (I hate the way cutouts sound, but at the track, I really don't care.. besides, I think a cam'd car with a cutout would do OK )

why not just tune it?

You tune for WOT.... air/fuel mixture readings come from the O2 sensors at idle.. you can't exactly tune there.

i've been aside many a cars with big cams that dont have this problem...

your part throttle tuning will help a TON, other wise no one would do it.

you can adjust your idle physically on the TB or on through the PCM i am pretty sure

I'm not aware that part throttle and idle tuning of air/fuel can be done.. timing and such.. sure.. but mixture? I thought that was all dependent on the O2's.. if I'm wrong I'd love to know that way I can ask Bryan (he already mail order tuned it, although I really want a dynotune.. as soon as I can find someone in Florida that can )

i dont know what can and cant be done, but i do know my 383 is idling 10x better with his tuning-
I'm using that just to get around and should be gettign a dyno tune when the motor goes back in

Hrm.. yeah.. the idle itself is fine and the car is running great..

the smell is pretty harsh though.. if you stand behind the car too long your eyes will start to burn..

I think that sounds like a good idea with the cut out for the track. I'm getting one made in the middle of an ORP for my single cat SLP headers so I can swap the cat out for the track and run the cutout. You probably should get it dyno tuned to correct the rich condition though if Bryans tuning didn't help it.

You can tune at idle...you need to look at you BLM's they're probably bottomed out right now...Have you pulled plug to see what it looks like?
Youll need to raise the injector constant or tweak the MAF tables a little.

Actually.. I will go ahead and pull a plug to see how it looks...

thanks for the suggestion.. also I'm still waiting on a laptop to use for autotap to check BLM's..
