I just drew up a sketch on photoshop. I think it will help with the smell in the cab when the cutouts are open, and I also think the car will sound better with them aimed out each side. The car will also probably sound like it has a larger cam since the exhaust wouldnt have equalized, and when standing on one side of the car you'd only really hear that one bank firing.

What do you guys think about this:

BTW- You can see my mod list below.

I've often thought about a setup very similiar to that except the exits to the side would be "nascar style" flat / wide openings (much like the factory Z28 tip shape). That would allow a side exit but still be somewhat hidden. I have seen pictures of a setup that used a side exit and it did not look too bad. Make sure to post some pics if you try your setup idea.

By the way.... that home garage paint job looks damn good!! Like the color

As long as you plan to do custom cutouts, consider putting them at the beginning of the 90 degree bends in the Y-pipe so that they do the most good. The gasses don't really want to turn into the cutout opening so lots of them will continue back thru the standard exhaust system unless you give them an easier path to follow. Sure, you are relieving some of the back pressure in the system, but you are disrupting the flow with the cutouts placed as shown. Exhaust gasses are somewhat "blond". They may be hot, but they are dumb.

Yep, just listening to one side it will sound like and uneven-firing 4 cylinder.

Your concept drawing resembles my exhaust, but I don't have the pipes run out to the sides. I really don't notice any exhaust getting in the car. I can see where it would be nice to have the electric cutouts though and not have to roll under the car and pop the caps off and on. Anyways, this is my set-up......

Ya, your exhaust looks really good. I already have the two elect. cutouts. I think having the pipes pointing the exhaust out on each side will add alot to the sound.

BTW- Thanks curly, it was an adventure, and eventually it will be painted a blue color, once this paint job shows any age Hey, for about 500-600 in supplies it doesnt make any sense to baby the paint, I'll just re-shoot it

Why use cut-outs? Run those pipes to the side only, forget the rest of the Y-pipe and catback. Use come chrome stock tips and oval piping to get to the side, perhaps even some flat-oval ended style Flowmaster racing Mufflers. Otherwise nice set-up.

Re: What do you guys think about this exhaust idea? (Pictures inside)

I'd love to, but I live in a apartment complex full of older folks who are really nice, but already hated my car.

Thats why I have always had the electric cutout, so when I leave I can make the car sound like I want it to, but when I come back it magically is quiet again.

I would also consider dumping the exhaust after the muffler, but I dont like the way T/A's look without exhaust tips in the bumper.

That is why I was considering just doing some side pipes that are not visable. It will accomplish the sound that I want (super lopey) and will shut up when I need it to.
