What do I need to know for rebuild to get 500hp?

I want to know wether or not I need to go with 355, 383, or leave it at 346. I want to know what I need to do with the block, crank, rods, pistons, heads, intake, and everything else. Only what I need to do. This includes stuff like reprogramming the computer and what malfunctions are going to occur because of introducing different engine components.

As far as I'm concerned, all I have to do is tear it down (LT1) port the block, heads, blueprint and balance the crank and block, get new rods and pistons (3.875? and 4.00 stroke?(just as examples), throw a hot cam in there and reprogram the computer.

It appears that you have never rebuilt any engine, let alone modified one.

Reread Injuneer's last post in your first thread. He has offered good advice. Spend some time researching, so you have at least the basic knowledge of what's involved in modifying an engine for more power.

Go to a reputable engine builder in your area (after the water dries up) and tell them what you want and how much money you are willing to spend. They will tell you if that's a practical goal. If a couple of them tell you the same thing, believe them.

I've done it before, but I want to pretend I don't know anything this time so I will be open-minded about suggestions. Basically, I want more power than I had last time. Well, I don't really remember much. It was about two years ago, when I was 17.

What tranny gears, drive shaft, and rear end are going to be optimal for the performance of a 383.

Since you are new to the forum, check out the "edit/delete" button at the bottom of your posts. This allows you to add something to a previous post without generating a new one. It's useful tool, and saves bandwidth.

Umm...do what oldstroker said and do a search. Dont know why you want to seem stupid? Your asking for a 225HP jump, it really isnt all that easy, or easy as it may sound.

Also, the LT1 is not 346 cubic inches, it's 350. The LS1 is a 346.

First thing you need is a thick wallet.

Try this:
http://www.v8beast.homestead.com/stroker.html

also when you call the machine shop be sure not to ask them how much to PORT the block, make sure you ask them how much to BORE the block.

Another thing. 500hp at the crank or the wheels, auto or manual, there is a huge difference, especially if you have an auto, something like 20+% parasitic loss right guys?? and a manual around 12% loss throughout the drivetrain. To do 500hp at the crank is still quite difficult. Unless you are lucky, you will most likely need AFRs, somewhere around at least ported 190ccs if not 210s. If you were to port the hell out of stock castings, throw a pretty big matched cam in there, get a good rotating assembly, and you will need a dyno tune most likely, you could be right around 500fwhp(flywheel hp). no way are you getting that at the wheels with stock casting heads, you will need ported AFR 215s and a trick intake for that kind of numbers.

Also dont forget the 12bolt to go with these mods, unless you run 7" wide hard compound tires.

Where do I get the AFR215's? Which intake do you recommend? Can I not just port out the one that I have?

How much money do you have to spend on this motor?

I was thinking maybe $5000. Like I said before, I want 500rwhp. I will do exactly what I have to to get that much hp. If it takes more than 5000, that's fine, money is not an issue. But I'm not going to spend any more than I have to.
