What Do I Need to break 11's?!
What Do I Need to break 11's?!
'94 Z28 (non t-top)
18k miles on 383 ci motor, Forged crank, and rods, kb 10.5:1's. 4l60e built by B&C transmissions, 3500 stall by Midwest convertors. Auburn center section, 3:73's. Comp cams 304 cam, and cc springs. Mac shorties and flowmaster muffler. Custom intake, 1le intake elbow, one off throttle body-dual 55mm,
ed wright ecu.
also, the car went 13.0 at 108 through the factory catback, stock intake and stock tires...It now has different exhaust and an intake, and has been tuned up. As of now I'm almost sure this is a mid 12-second car.
Car has COMPLETELY stock suspension. I figured SFC's and LCA's and a set of DR's and I should be extremely low 12's/high 11's. Car will be put on spray next year, and I hope for LOW 11's.

Re: What Do I Need to break 11's?!
I don't see any mention of head work, and I don't know the specs of the 304 cam. What were your 60's like at the track? That trap speed seems low to me also ( I see it was thru a stock cat back..) but, what were the track conditions like? (weather, altitude, etc.) Vehicle weight? Injectors?
There's nothing wrong with the stock intake; its good to have it ported to match the TB and the head ports, though. I went 118 mph thru mine last year. And I should go 120 this year (I hope...) I guess we just need a little more info on your combo..

Re: What Do I Need to break 11's?!
the car was doing 1.8 60-fts on factory street tires and completely factory suspension.
there's no head work or intake porting. only a comp cams 304 cam(The CC304 cam duration is 210 / 220, .500 / .510 114 LSA) and Comp Cams valve springs.
I am buying the car next weekend and this is all the info I have on the car so far.
the 13-sec flat run was done in northern IL (byron, IL-don't know weather specs)
Car has stock injectors/stock weight (3300)
I was thinking: a bigger, much more suitable cam/maybe new heads and intake/some long tubes and better exhaust/SFC's/LCA's/and on drag radial. maybe some spray after a while.

Re: What Do I Need to break 11's?!
I want to change up the entire intake and valvetrain.
I've been looking @ either the cc306 or gm847...is this all I'll need to see solid 11's?
Do you think an intake would be needed to flow correctly, or could the stock piece be ported?
Also, the car has a completely stock valvetrain besides the CC valve springs and teeny weeny cam...would a different set of heads be needed along with the cam?

Re: What Do I Need to break 11's?!
Here's a list I've thrown together:
Car Needs:
-GM847 Camshaft and new valvesprings
-Pacesetter coated LT's and ORY followed by a cutout
-BMR Boxed-SFC001-Hardtop Boxed Subframe Connector ($169.95 pair)
-BMR BCA002-Boxed control arms w/rubber-poly bushings ($149.95 pair)
-BMR Lowering Springs PART#SP001 - 1993-2002 V8 F-Body kit ($219.95 kit)
-BMR Panhard Rod-PHR001-Standard ($99.95)
-QA1(HAL) Shocks 15FB300 - 300 lb. front spring ($49.95 ea.)
-Drag Wheels and Tires (MT E/T dr's on Weld ProStars)
What is the biggest size I can use without any modification/rubbing?

Re: What Do I Need to break 11's?!
Kiddi,
I haven't raced the new set up this year as I'm waiting on my 12 bolt to get here. The old set up which was a complete LPE 383 with the small 211/219 cam went 11.70s @ 118 mph on BFG DRs. This year I had E.B. porting go thru the heads and Joe Overton spec out a small and nasty cam. With traction it should go 11.20s-11.40s @ 120 (I hope)
Akain,
I agree with all the suspension mods except lowering springs...Just never liked them for drag racing as they tend to negate some of the load transfer at launch. Plus, you will need LCA relocation brackets to correct the geometry of the LCA caused by lowering the car. I also have not used the QA1 shocks, but I hear they work well.
With any cam you are going to need to get the heads ported and add larger valves otherwise you will not see the true benefits of the cam. And send the intake (I have never had any probs with my stock intake) with the heads to have it port matched and ported for your TB. The devil's in the details...Might be a good time to look at bigger injectors, too.
You may want to talk to Joe Overton (Lethalefi.com) or Lloyd Elliot both do cam/head combos to suit your needs. I went with Joe and I am extremely happy with the results, but he's hard to get a hold of.
With tires I tend to stay with a 26" tall 10" wide...MT ET Radials come in a 275 50 R15 which is 26x10 and I think you can put them on a Weld 15x10 w/ 7.5" backspace with no probs, but you will need to grind you calipers a bit to get the wheel on. The only wheels I know of that don't require any surgery are Bogarts and Centerline Telstars. Sorry this is so long...Good luck..

Re: What Do I Need to break 11's?!
Do you have a tune? Why did you go with such a small cam for that engine? Also that time looks really bad for a 383. I was thinking you just got a really bad launch but your launch isen't really where your problems are coming from. I seriously doubt DRs will knock a second off your time when you are already pulling a 1.8 60 foot.
Sounds like you've got fuel or breathing issues on the motor.
