What to do for heads?

I am picking up a 95 z28 tomorrow with a bad motor. The water pump went out and it overheated and killed the opti. When he put a new water pump and opti in it started right up but blew a head gasket. I think the heads are probably warped from the overheating. They are off of the car right now. Is there any way I can tell if they are warped without precision tools?

My real question is: what should I do for heads when I rebuild it. Should I go for aftermarket heads if the stock ones are ruined? Who make a good aftermarket head? I know Edelbrock does. I am looking for about 375-385 rwhp (or more if the budget allows ) on a forged 355 and spraying 175-225 shot.

Thanks
Dustin

If you just want to make high 300s rw n/a, just get new stock castings ported. No need to spend alot of dough on aftermarket heads.

And the only way id trust a diagnosis on a set of heads that might be warped, is by a machine shop that has proper tools.

Agreed. Just pick up a set of stock heads for $250, have them done by anyone reputable ($1000-1500 complete) and slap in a 224/230 or 230/236 XE grind cam. BAM! There's your hp goal without spray.

Rumor is that the Edlebrock heads aren't performing up to par, and a set of AFR's are going to run serious $$$$$.
