What to do about my optispark?

I got fed it with my car and sent it to Greenwood Chevrolet. I have the report if anyone wants to see it, but basically my misfire and detonation is caused by my opti. The number #7 cylinder misifred b/c it was getting no spark from the opti.(Even though it runs through the computer first?) They did not observe the detonation since it only happens when driving. Coil and Injectors and everything else checked out.

Now I have some choices.

1. Buy a used opti (less than 50k) that worked when took off for $150? ( Should I ask to try it first and pay after it works? Its from a not friend but someone I know)

2. Buy a new opti, from somewhere? (Who has the best price on these?

3. Buy an alternative Ignition (What are they and who's the best price and quality wise?)

4. Convert my 94 to a vented system and get a new vented opti? (Costs and additional parts involved?)

I am just at a cross road and am debating the possibilites.

Also how long did it take you to change your opti and what install page/book did you use?

Thanks you guys very much.

You can get a new opti at Checker (or Schucks or Kragen) depending on where you live for under $200. I work there and have inspected them before. Very good quality.

Thumbs up A little help

My 94Z had the same exact problem. It was acting up on me so I tore apart the whole front end. You have to basically pull everything off on the front to change the Opti. I pulled off my air intake, loosened the serpentine belt and pulled that off, then had to remove the waterpump and front hub to the driver pulley (balancer hub). But you DO NOT need to take the whole Balancer assembly off, dont do that!..just the front pulley (its only three bolts) You need to remember where things are located and what direction they are in, etc...heres the link I used, it was VERY helpful. Just make sure you have the parts needed to complete it before taking it off (like I didnt.. )...my pretious Z has been sleeping now for three weeks cause Im still deciding on a damn Opti to buy!!! Checker had some for $150 that were refurbished with the core brought back to them...Good Luck, and just remember..take your time and make sure you have things labeled or remember where they were when you pulled them off or you're going to make more trouble than you started with! I know from experience DUDE laterz, Derek

Well I can get a opti that works perfectly with less than 1,000 miles on it for $75. But its vented. How hard is it to convert and what parts are necessary?

Should I change the Water Pump while I am in there? Just to be safe?
