i have an oil leak in my 396, it leaves about a 4-5 inch round spot in my driveway. i think its comin from the back side of my intake cuz its all over my y-pipe and also when it was up on the lift my mechanic said it was all over the back side of the motor. i was just wondering if thats too much oil to be loosing and if i should take care of it right away or if there are others with the same problem but just keep an eye on the oil level? thanks

This sounds like a SEVERE version of the standard LT1 intake oil leak. I had the same leak, but no where near as severe. Just pull the intake and fix it.

If you're leaving as large a puddle as you say, then you're losing considerable amounts of oil. That will certainly cause problems.

I don't know if engine performance would be affected by a major oil leak there, but it can't be helping it any.

 

what does burning oil smell like? cuz when i'm at WOT smoke comes through my shift boot and it smells funny almost like anti freeze so idk if its my reverse cooling line or if its the oil? i know for sure its not the clutch slippin or anything. thanks for your help
