what is the difference between a 93 and 97 LT1
Better you than me.....
You have a monumental task to perform if you try to do that.
The 93 engine harness will not mate up to the body harness in the car.
The 93 IAC motor connection is different.
The 93 Opti connection is different.
The 93 tachometer signals are different.
The 93 VSS signal might be different, don't quote me on this.
The 93 is batch fired injectors compared to sequential for all other years
Lower flow injectors. 93 is 22# compared to 24# for MAF types later.
93 has no MAF and is speed density type control compared to MAF type for all the rest.
Fuel system and intake manifold is different than later models.
93 ECM is prom type where the later versions are flash type.
93 Trouble codes can be gotten with a paper clip as compared to "reader" later on.
93 is a low tech OBDI control. The 97 is OBDII control. The obvious differences are OBDII has a CKP sensor for misfires and 2 more O2's to monitor the health of the cats.
Can't think of anything else.

im looking for the differences on the motor. Correct me if im wrong. I think i have to put the 97 timing chain/gear set, timing cover, and a reluctor wheel on the 93 motor. Thats the kind of stuff im looking for. I have not bought the 97 yet, still looking for the right deal. One thing thats is throwing me is that when you look at a timing set for a 97 it says it comes with the oil drive gear what is it talking about?
You have to address each of the differences that Speedy listed less the harness and PCM issues (assuming you want to keep your 97 PCM and wiring harness intact - which you did not state up front).
If you want to keep it OBD-II using the PCM currently in the car, you would have to use the cam, timing set, timing cover, reluctor wheel, damper hhub, Opti, short Opti harness and Opti vacuum harness from your 97.
If you want to keep the OBD-II EVAP controls, you have to use the EVAP vacuum detector switch from your 97.
You need to swap your 97 throttle body, since the 93 will have the wrong IAC/connector, and if it came out of an A4, it will have a connection on the linkage for a TV cable (you didn't tell us what trans your 97 has - why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car?).
You will have to swap your 97 intake manifold, fuel rails and injectors.
You will have to swap in your 97 knock sensor.
You will not need the tach filter coming off the 93 coil, for the tach drive.
If you want to keep AIR operable, you need to swap your 97 exhaust manifolds, because 93 has different AIR connections. The 93 will not have an AIR pump with it, so you have to swap over the 97 AIR system, complete (pump, solenoid, vacuum connections, air tubing, check valves and fittings.)

Front key is different when you have the reluctor also.

As far as the gear for oil pump drive shaft. The kit you are referring to must be of high enough quality to include a new gear for it so you can change out the old warn one.

If you are so hell bent on using the 93 engine, why not get a 97 engine from JY and swap over everything from the 97 to the 93 block. Since all you are going to be able to use would be the short block any way.

I am building the 93
block into a 383. It's all aftermarket stuff even the damper. It's going to be supercharged. I am at the point in the build to where I need to start installing a timing chain and stuff. I want to put this setup in a 97 car. I'm trying to figure out what all I should buy now off a 97 to install on the 93 block I'm using. As far as the sensors and connectors and things I can take that off the 97 . I want it as close to possible as I can to being ready to drop in the 97

no i believe what you said and that info is appreciated. I was just filling in the info i left out. So you knew exactly what i was doing. Incase anyone had anything to add to it. But about the keyways issue that speedygonzalos said ; would that still matter with a keyed ati damper that i have?
You will also need a key for the ATI piece if you haven't already got one.
Preciate it "snakeoiler".
"Speedygonzales" -What was that comment about. Thought the 97 was already obdII. I dont have to turn it into a odbII. The only thing that i was gonna use off of an obdI system was the 93 block.

My car was a 1994 3.4L V6 Auto. I swapped in a 97 LT1 w/ 4L60e, posi rear.... well, there's no way to tell it apart from the 97 Z28 that the drivetrain came from other than the tail lights. The differences are RIDICULOUS! You'd be money ahead by just trying to find the correct year engine.
Am I reading this wrong? It looks to me like the OP is using the BLOCK to build a 383 and nothing else. If that is the case most of these issues are moot.
Question for the OP.
Does the '97 car in question have a motor in it currently?
If so when you pull the '97 motor just switch the timing cover with sensors, the crank hub, the knock sensor, 97 opti, the intake manifold assembly, and any other sensors you see on the motor. Plug in all the harnesses and such. EASY.
If you don't have a '97 motor in the car then buy a 96-97 timing cover, Crank Position Sensor, crank hub, knock sensor, IAC, and a vented opti. With that you should be pretty ready to go unless you need misc. hoses and harnesses. I may be missing some stuff but if the car has a motor already it's no different than installing any other engine.
Please detail what engine(s) you have available to you and what this "93" motor really is, ie. aftermarket TB, heads, crank, intake manifold???. It would help you to get good information without the talking down to. Good luck,
Larry
