What degree thermostat?

Do NOT use a conventional SBC thermostat in a "reverse cooled" LT1 engine. It does not have the required valve to seal the opening to control flow through the orifice in the water pump housing.
See this photo/explanation on Shoebox's Tech Pages .... always a good place to look when you have a question.

I think it depends on where you live. When I lived in Florida, I put the 160 in and I feel it made a difference, althoug a small one. Just keep in mnd your environment.

Every now and then someone will post about white goo inside their valve covers and I think that is a result of the 160 thermostat. It doesn't let the oil get hot enough to boil off moisture. You might make a bit more power but I'm not sure its worth it in the long run.

So Hypertech makes a 180* and SLP makes a 160* (PN 100224--$19).
Those of you with a manual fan switch: which one did you ues?
