What could be wrong with my car?

My car has been acting up lately where sometimes it starts and other times it just cranks and never starts.

When the car starts, it runs just fine. When it wouldn't start, I checked the fuel pump by giving the prime connector under the hood 12V from the battery. A few times it came on and other times it didn't. It's just kind of a hit and miss thing.

Could there be a ground issue? What could make it act so spurratic?

I thought it was the fuel pump, but it works so well when it runs it makes me think that's not what it is.

Please give me your thoughts!

This is just a suggestion, maybe check if it's the battery. I think Pep Boys or Discount Auto Parts or someone will check your battery for you without charge to see if it's good or bad. That's just about the only thing I can think of. Sorry I couldn't help any more.

fuel pump relay might be sticking as well....just another thought...but i would definaltly get the battery checked, if nothing else take it out of the car and take it down there...they should be able to check it out of the car (I know Checker Auto can, used to work for them)

this might help

Check all the positive connections to include the ones under the red plastic cover located behind the battery.

At one time I had a similar issue - I found the positive wire coming from the battery into that plastic red "junction terminal" to be causing my headaches. At time everything was fine then at other times the engine would not start.

Good luck

Pasmado,

Thank you for your reply. That sounds like a definite possibility.
