What combo of mods to out run LS1
What combo of mods to out run LS1
Hello,
I have a 97 ws6 with a slp loudmouth on it. I love my car but dont like the idea of losing alot to other ones that are stock so I would like to know what I need to beat LS1s with out to much hastle. I am willing to put some money into it so I am not asking for free 5 hp mods. I am also not looking for a 4 grand supercharger either. I was thinking heads and cam but wanted to check with people that know more first. So if you would please give me options and prices I would be very thankful becasue I want to be able to pull up to them not worry all the time. At this time I was think about maybe putting 1000-1500 in it so thats my budget if it can be done with that.
Thanks in advance

cool thats good to know i just dont like losing to other stock or close to it cars. Do either of you have an estimate on the price of those option i would hope i could do headers for that money but wasnt for sure about head and stuff. Also thanks for the quick responses. Keep an ideas coming I am up for about anything.
Get your heads ported by Lloyd Eliot or do them your self if you know how. Match a nice cam and some LTs and get your car tuned. That should put you in front of an LS1 with no problem. If your car is an auto, you might think about adding a stall although I don't think you'll need it if your only goal is to see an LS1 in your rear view. But the stall will certainly help to take advantage of the other mods mentioned.
yeah that is the complete truth but if you think like that why mod your car at all. I understand that and I am not looking to beat everyone just those dang ls1 that roll off the showrrom floor.
To answer your question, a set of long tubes (Hooker, Jet Hot), CAI and a nice catback will be enough to hang with/edge out stock LS1s. On top of that, throw a cam in it and you should be in the 110-113 mph range and pulling stock LS1s pretty hard.
LT headers will set you back ~$550, plus a y-pipe - another $150-$200. You can get cam kits (Hotcam, or any kit from Combination Motorsports) for around $500-$700 plus install (another $500 at least) unless you install it yourself. My '97 in the sig has long tubes, CAI, Flowmaster catback and a CC305 cam. It runs pretty good and puts a hurtin on stock LS1s.

i dont car if ur car has 1000 hp ill still race u lol....
the thing about modding ur car is to mod it to ur own satisfaction IMO ......
but anyways a set of long tubed headers (if u dont have strict emmisions or inspections) and ur exhaust will keep u with stock ls1 cars.....cam and head will keep u ahead like everyone is saying
