Wondering if i should stick with the stock or go aftermarket if there are gains to be had.

Also, how long should the stock one last?

You probably won't see any gains from an aftermarket coil on a relatively stock engine other than a smoother idle-if that. I put on an MSD coil and it make no difference whatsoever, but if I was running N2O or a supercharger, then yes I would run an aftermarket coil with an ignition control box.

I've had an Autozone OEM equiv type coil ($19) for several years now. No problems.

I got increased fuel mileage..

17 mpg - noticed there was something wrong..

19.5 mpg - replaced the locking gas cap with an original GM one..got back the power and gas mileage

21 mpg - replaced the stock coil with an MSD blaster coil

20.2 mpg - changed to 3.42's

23.6 mpg - cleaned out my air filter that had been down there for 9 months..bloody muddy if you asked me..

This is with the mods below...

I will be doing my plugs and wires very soon so i thought it may be worth it to swap the coil while i was in there if there were gains to be had. Hmmmm ...

Did changing the gas cap really make a difference? I have a locking one as well and maybe I should get rid of it.

I have heard that locking gas caps will cause problems because they are more or less a generic deal, and they do not hold the pressure, and that will make a difference.
